Fujian Logistics Information

Fujian’s proximity to Taiwan has made it a hub for foreign commerce. Located on the west side of the Strait of Taiwan, Fujian borders Zhejiang to the north and Guangdong to the south. Past regulations have prevented trade with Taiwan, but  recently they have been loosened, allowing for unprecedented levels of economic cooperation.  However, with this cooperation, Fujian loses business and income from Taiwan as these other provinces compete.  Many of Fujian’s famed deep water ports, in Xiamen, Quanzhou, Putian, Zhangzhou, and Ningde, are served by 160 shipping lines and can handle vessels up to 200,000 tonnes.  In 2007, they handled over 240 million tonnes of cargo. The Port of Xiamen is the eighth busiest container port in China and ranks 30th in the world. Fujian’s two international airports, in Fuzhou and Xiamen, and four regional airports link to both domestic and international  destinations. Railways in Fujian transport over 36 million tonnes of freight annually, linking Fuzhou and Xiamen to other cities and neighboring provinces. Although Fujian’s road systems are not as developed as those of other provinces, highways do run between most of its main cities.
