Labor Costs

Macau (SAR) Employee Wage & Labor Cost Information

The average wage of a direct employee in Macau for manufacturing in early 2011 was around RMB 6,584 (MOP 8,162) per month, which is comparable to bordering Zhuhai in mainland China.  However, Macau is considered as one of the few high income economies in the world, beyond manufacturing the average monthly wage is closer to 6,584 RMB. The Special Administrative Region of Macau has no set legal minimum wage, but strong local trade unions pressure local companies to recognize a standard of living which effectively acts as a ‘minimum wage’. Calculating the exact cost of a direct employee on an hourly basis involves a complex formula composed of a daily base salary, employee benefits, and taxation.
