Xiamen’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) covers the island that the city is located on in its entirety, providing access to the sea. The city is located in the southern part of Fujian province, about an hour-long flight from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Macau, and Taipei. Xiamen International Airport is a regional air hub and the fourth busiest airport of entry in China, offering frequent passenger and cargo services to Taiwan. Xiamen’s port is among the largest, not only in China but across the world, processing over 300,000 TEUs annually. Xiamen is connected to most other cities in southern China via a network of highways and railways, including an extensive, low-cost rail system that allows for inexpensive transport of goods to and from the Free Trade Zone at the Port of Xiamen.
