Hainan (SEZ) Logistics Information

Hainan, China’s southernmost province and largest island, is located south of Guangdong across the Qiongzhou Strait.  In addition to its various small harbors in Qinglan, Puqian, Xincun, Baimajing, Boao and Xinying, Hainan has two major ports; the Port of Sanya, in the south, and the Port of Haikou, in the north, which processes about 310,000 TEUs (twenty foot containers) each year.  The two ports ship to 24 countries and regions and have a combined 126 berths, 23 of which can handle ships up to 10,000 tons. Hainan has two airports, also in Haikou and Sanya, offering 24 international air routes to domestic and international Asian destinations. In addition to its air and sea transport systems, Hainan is connected to Guangdong province via a cross-sea rail bridge.  It is important to note that most of Hainan’s exports are agricultural products.  Its geographic detachment from mainland China puts it a significant logistical disadvantage compared to other provinces, making manufacturing and other industries difficult.
