Shanghai Logistics Information

Shanghai is China’s largest multi-platform shipping hub, moving goods through air, sea and rail. Shanghai is located in the middle of China’s Eastern Coast. In 2008, Shanghai’s ports processed 582 million tonnes of cargo, making it the busiest port city in both China and the world. It’s Waigaoqiao Port, which handles over 60 percent of all cargo activity in Shanghai, and was the first Free Trade Zone (FTZ) to be approved by the Chinese National Government. Waigaoqiao is also renowned for pioneering paperless customs clearance and streamlined export procedures. Shanghai’s two airports process over three million tonnes of cargo annually, placing them among the top five in the world. Their proximity to Shanghai’s seaports (less than 40 km) allows products to be shipped by both sea and air. Goods are also transported via Shanghai’s railway system, which handles over 12.7 million tonnes of freight annually.
