Guangdong Manufacturing & Investment Information

Guangdong is Southern China’s economic center. Bordering Hong Kong and Macau, it contains three of China’s five original Special Economic Zones (Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Shantou).  Its main industries: electronics, chemicals, bio-pharmaceutical, automobile parts, and construction materials, are mostly in the light manufacturing sector.  Guangdong is also prominent in the logistics industry. Guangdong’s electronics industry comprises over 41 percent of its total industrial output. Its vast array of economic incentives and 22 state-level economic development zones have attracted large amounts of foreign investment.  It has seven airports and two of the world’s top ten sea ports (Shenzhen and Guangzhou).

Guangdong & Foreign Investment

Guangdong has the largest provincial economy in China and produces 12 percent of the nation’s economic output. It generated a  GDP of USD 665 Billion in 2010, increasing by 14 percent from its 2009 GDP of USD 572 billion.  In 2009, Guangdong utilized USD 19.2 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Over 150 Fortune 500 companies, including GlaxoSmithKline, Bayer, Volkswagen, Nissan, Honda Motors, Sony, Casio, Carrefour, AIG, and Vivendi Universal now maintain projects in Guangdong.  Its skilled workforce is fed by a pool of over 874,000 students from 100 universities and other institutions of higher education. Guangdong is also prominent in the logistics industry with seven airports and two of the world’s top ten sea ports (Shenzhen and Guangzhou).
