Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA)

The Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area, or TEDA, was formed in 1984 and considered a free market zone. TEDA is located in Tianjin, within the Tanggu District, along the north eastern coast of China. TEDA is major hub for foreign business and investment has been for more than ten years.

TEDA is located less than an hour from downtown Tianjin and is a quick ride away on the Binhai Mass Transit that was recently built in 2004. TEDA acts like its own city with schools, residential areas, transportation networks and a port.

Beginning in the late nineties, MOFCOM (Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China) began studying China’s developmental zones and different indicators of economic and technological performance, and TEDA has always been at the top of the list.
